Important travel information for supporters attending engage Super League Millennium Magic

Supporters attending engage Super League Millennium Magic can benefit from a ‘Park and Ride’ service into the centre of Cardiff that will operate throughout the weekend.

The two Park and Ride sites are the International Sports Village in Cardiff Bay (PURPLE CAR PARK) and at County Hall (GREEN CAR PARK). Both these sites can be accessed from J33 of the M4 motorway and cost just £5 per car.

Buses from both sites will drop off at Callaghan Square.

On Saturday the first bus will leave the car parks at 9:30am. The last bus will leave the city-centre pick-up point at 10:00pm with the car parks locked at 10:30pm.

On Sunday the car parks will have a staff presence from 9:30am, will open at 10:00am, with the first bus at 10:00am. The last bus will leave the pick-up point at 9:30pm with the car parks locked at 10:00pm.

Coaches bringing supporters to Cardiff have been advised to leave the M4 at J32 and park in Museum Ave / College Rd, in the Civic centre.

An RFL spokesman said, “The park and ride system offers a convenient route to the Millennium Stadium in the centre of Cardiff and we would advise supporters to take full advantage to maximise their enjoyment of the event.”

Motorists not using the park and ride service should note that Westgate Street in the city centre will be closed from 2:00pm - 9:30pm on Saturday, and from 1:30pm – 9:00pm on Sunday.
The following roads will also be closed for coach parking on both days - Museum Ave from its junction with Gorsedd Gardens to its junction with Corbett Road and College Road from its junction with Museum Ave to its junction with King Edward VII Ave.

The Millennium Stadium is located in the heart of the city on Westgate Street close to Cardiff Castle. Please be aware that traffic on the day will be extremely heavy therefore please allow plenty of time for your journey to the stadium.

Here are some tips and general information on how to make your way through the congestion:

Set off early – make plenty of allowances for delays, whether you’re travelling by road or rail. Even a minor accident ahead of you can add hours to your journey.

Listen to BBC Wales – for regular travel news with extra bulletins on match days. If you’re travelling from England, you’ll probably be able to pick up a station on 882 or 657 AM long before you reach Wales where you can also hear it on FM. For more details see the Radio Wales website or Radio Cymru for Welsh language coverage.

Have some cash for the Severn Bridge tolls – you have to pay to come into Wales via the M4 or M48. Toll booths are on the westbound carriageway shortly after the new crossing (M4) or just before the old bridge (M48) – they also take cheques but do not take credit or debit cards. The charges as of 1 January 2008 are £5.30 for cars, £10.60 minibuses, and £15.90 coaches. See the Severn River Crossing plc website for the latest details. There is no charge on the eastbound carriageway heading from Wales into England.

Check public transport – call Traveline on 0870 6082608 for information about buses, coaches and rail services throughout Wales.

Go by waterbus – if you’re staying in Penarth or Cardiff Bay, you can take a boat trip to the Stadium up by the River Taff. See www.cardiffwaterbus.com for details.

Vouchers/Residents Parking – if you do try and park in town, watch out for voucher parking zones around the city centre. It’ll normally cost you £1 an hour for a maximum of two hours – you can buy vouchers in most newsagents’ shops around the city centre. If you’re trying to park elsewhere, remember that local residents will be much more welcoming if you do not park in their reserved spaces, on grass verges or block their driveways. You’ll also run the risk of a parking ticket or even clamping.

Please note the roads surrounding the Stadium are pedestrianised one hour before the kick-off in the first match and one hour after the final hooter.

Car parking in the city centre is limited; however there are substantial Park and Ride facilities.
