League greats to make Cup draw
Wednesday 5th May 10
The draw for the quarter-finals of the Carnegie Challenge Cup will be made live on BBC2 on Sunday May 9 at 5.15pm following the conclusion of the televised fifth round tie, Crusaders RL v Catalans Dragons.
The draw will be conducted by two former Rugby League half-backs who have special memories of the sport’s oldest and still most prestigious knockout competition, Mike Ford and David Watkins.
Ford, who now works as the England RU defence coach, was a member of the Wigan team that defeat Hull FC 28-24 at Wembley in 1995, a match will be commemorated at this year’s final on Saturday August 28.
Dual-code international Watkins played at stand-off for Salford in the 1969 Challenge Cup final, a match won 11-6 by Castleford.
The quarter-finals of the Carnegie Challenge Cup will be played over the weekend of May 29 and 30.
