Vikings snap up duo
10th October 2012
Widnes Vikings have made Wigan Warriors backs Stefan Marsh and Joe Mellor permanent signings after they spent most of the 2012 season on loan with them.
Marsh, a 22-year-old centre who made 23 appearances for the Vikings on their return to Super League this year, and 21-year-old stand-off Mellor, who has had two loan spells at the Stobart Stadium, have both signed two-year contracts after being released by Wigan.
Widnes coach Denis Betts said: “We were always hopeful we could retain Stefan. Despite having an option to remain at Wigan, he has really enjoyed his time at Widnes.
“He’s a strike centre and, while we’ve been really pleased with how he has performed so far, we realise there’s plenty more to come from him.
“Joe found his Super League opportunities limited at Wigan but, from day one, his attitude and application at Widnes have been outstanding.
“He is a committed person and a quality professional, who leaves no stone unturned in his preparation and takes nothing for granted on the field.”
Widnes have also given new deals to former Wigan prop forward Ben Davies and fellow front rower Alex Gerrard.
