Duport pens new Dragons deal
18th October 2012
France centre Vincent Duport has signed a new four-year contract with Catalan Dragons which will keep him at the Perpignan club until the end of 2016.
The 24-year-old, who is in his second spell with the Dragons, missed virtually the whole of the 2011 season with a ruptured cruciate knee ligament but has been one of only three ever-presents this year, scoring 19 tries in his 32 league and cup appearances.
“It was important for the club to keep Vincent,” said new Catalan head coach Laurent Frayssinous.
“He will become one of the key players in the team in the years to come. He is a valuable player in the squad, both on and off the field.
“He worked really hard after his injury to come back at his best and this new contract is a fair reward.”
Duport, who had a spell with Toulouse in 2010, said: “I’m really happy to see the club has full confidence in me for the future.
“I performed really well in 2012 but I don’t want to stop here. I want more for the years to come.”
Duport was this week named France’s player of the year in the Rugby League International Federation annual awards and is in the French team to play Wales in Lens on Saturday.
