Tiger Mania for Pupils at The Vale School in Knottingley
30th October 2012
Year 6 pupils at The Vale School were joined by young Castleford’s Tigers stars, James Clare and Ben Johnston to conclude three weeks of Tiger Mania.
The Super League club brought its popular programme, which introduces children to fundamental core rugby league skills, to the primary school in Knottingley over the course of October. Across the first two weeks, the boys and girls were taught basic skills such as passing, catching, scoring a try and playing the ball with a series of mini-competitions that enabled them to try out the new techniques in more pressured situations.
The children took part in a classroom-based session for the final week which saw Ben Johnston and James Clare join in as well as answer their questions and sign autographs.
Tigers’ Community RL Development Officer, Keith Bullimore who led the sessions said, “Tiger Mania targets youngsters who may be new to rugby league or not predisposed to the rigours of full contact sport.
“We teach core rugby league skills in a fun environment which also encourages the children to learn about teamwork and performing in a competitive environment.
“We have also run the programme at the Strawberry Fields Primary School in Garforth and it has been received really well by pupils at both schools. We look forward to taking the programme to more schools in the coming months.”
