Burns boost for Rovers
1st March 2013
Hull KR stand-off Travis Burns will make his eagerly-awaited Super League debut against unbeaten Warrington Wolves at Craven Park on Sunday, coach Craig Sandercock has confirmed.
The 29-year-old joined the Robins on a three-year deal from Penrith Panthers in the winter as a straight replacement for countryman Blake Green, who joined Wigan Warriors.
But Burns was forced to sit on the sidelines for the first month of the season as he served the four games remaining on a 12-match ban he was given for an intentional high shot and a “chicken-wing” tackle while playing his last match for the Panthers.
Sandercock confirmed today that Burns will line up alongside skipper Michael Dobson in a new half-back partnership but is urging fans not to expect too much too soon from him.
“He’s pretty excited, as the whole club is, but we don’t want to lump too much pressure on him as he hasn’t played since last July,” said Sandercock. “I hope people don’t expect too much from him on Sunday but he’s massive for us and just having his presence out there will be a big help.
“Travis is a positive type of person who is also a good talker and those qualities will help us. He and Michael are our number one halves pairing and any team that’s successful generally fields the same pairing for the majority of the season.
“We’re pretty confident that they’ll work together.”
