Escare earns fresh Dragons deal

Catalan Dragons full-back Morgan Escare has signed a new two-year contract after making a big impact in his first season of Super League.

The 21-year-old was playing for the Dragons' reserve side UTC in the French championship when he got the chance to deputise for injured full-back Brent Webb in March.

Escare seized his opportunity by scoring 10 tries in just 10 Super League appearances, including a hat-trick at Widnes Vikings last Sunday, and is thought to have played himself into contention for a World Cup spot.

"I'm really pleased to stay at the club for the next two seasons," said Escare, who was the leading scorer in the French championship with 15 tries.

"I've worked really hard to make my place in the squad and this new deal encourages me to work even harder to prove I deserve it."

Catalan coach Laurent Frayssinous said: "I'm proud to see Morgan rewarded by this new contract.

"He really deserves it and represents the future of the club. He worked hard the last three seasons and took his chance after Brent Webb's injury."
