Tigers tie up two deals

4th July 2013

Castleford Tigers have agreed a new deal with Australian forward Grant Millington and will take London Broncos centre Michael Channing on loan to the end of the season.

Channing, 21, who is hoping to play for Wales in the World Cup, has made 12 Super League appearances for the Broncos this year but is not thought to be in coach Tony Rea's long-term plans.

He is set to link up with the Tigers next week, with a view to making a permanent move at the end of the season.

Millington, 26, is out of contract this year but has agreed a new 12-month deal with coach Daryl Powell, who has been impressed with the former Canterbury and Cronulla prop or second rower who is in his second season with the club.

"It's a great signing for us," Powell said. "I've been impressed with him, both as a person and as a player. He's a good all-round player and I'm delighted to have him on board for next year."

Meanwhile Castleford have allowed back rower Charlie Martin to go on a month's loan to Powell's old club Featherstone.

The 20-year-old made his Super League debut against St Helens on Easter Monday but has yet to force his way into Powell's team.

"He's been sat on his backside for quite a few weeks and this is a good opportunity for him to go and play," Powell said.

"Featherstone have got a couple of injuries in the forwards so it will be good for them and good for us."
