Gibson to make Tigers move

28th August 2013

Castleford Tigers have made Salford City Reds centre Ashley Gibson their first signing for 2014.

The 26-year-old former Leeds Rhinos player, whose contract with the Reds runs out this year, is joining the Tigers on a two-year deal.

"I'm chuffed to sign for Castleford Tigers," said Gibson, who has spent the last four years at Salford and scored 54 tries in 111 Super League appearances. "When my manager came to me saying that Cas were interested in me I was over the moon.

"There were a couple of other offers but I wanted to be playing my rugby close to home so it's a great opportunity for me in Castleford."

Castleford coach Daryl Powell said: "Ashley is a player that I have rated since I coached at Leeds when he was a young player coming through the system. He is a versatile and skilful player with a great attitude and his signing further strengthens the quality and depth in our squad for next season."

Gibson is set to face his next employers when Salford visit Castleford on Sunday in the penultimate match of the season.
