The Robins have ensured that the memory of the late Chris Park will be honoured forever after renaming the club’s media room ‘The Chris Park Media Suite’.
Both Hull KR and the game of rugby league lost a true friend when Chris sadly passed away late last year and the club thought it only appropriate to mark the outstanding contribution he made to the red and white cause by renaming the media room in his memory.
Robins’ CEO Mike Smith commented:
“Chris was a staunch supporter of the club and also loved the game at every level, whether it be junior, amateur, academy or professional. Having been the Rovers’ commentator on BBC Radio Humberside for near on 20 years, Chris became instantly recognisable to red and white supporters as the ‘voice of the Robins’ and his passionate commentaries on our games will be sadly missed.
“We looked at several different ways of ensuring that Chris’ memory will live on here at Hull KR and thought that the renaming of the media room was the most fitting tribute we could pay to him. Chris spent plenty of time in there, both as a commentator for Radio Humberside and also as the matchday PA announcer for our academy games.
“His presence on a matchday is sorely missed by all of those who were fortunate enough to know him, but Chris’ name, and the contribution he made to Hull KR and rugby league in general, will never be forgotten.”
Chris’ son, Michael, added:
“The renaming of the media room is a wonderful tribute to my dad. He always had Rovers in his heart, and for him to now have his own place at the heart of Rovers is a touching gesture from the club. I know he would be blown away by all the tributes that have been paid to him in recent months, as he only ever wanted to do what he could to help out a club and a sport he loved.
“On behalf of my mum and the family, I'd like to publicly thank Neil Hudgell, Mike Smith and Hull KR, as well as people throughout the rugby league community, for their support through what has been a very difficult time for us.”
