London Broncos produced an impressive second-half show in difficult conditions to climb off the bottom of the Super League table with their second successive away win.

Trailing 12-6 at half-time, they stunned Castleford Tigers with three converted tries in a blistering eight-minute spell early in the second period.

Chris Bailey bagged two tries and Michael Witt landed five goals from five kicks as the Broncos clambered above fellow strugglers Castleford.

The Tigers were without suspended Justin Carney and Weller Hauraki but welcomed back Lee Gilmour and Jake Webster from injury.

Winger Richard Owen and substitute prop Jonny Walker were both recalled to Castleford's team and Dan Fleming made his Super League debut from the bench.

Australian full-back Michael Robertson replaced Scott Wheeldon in London's line-up.

Both teams initially struggled to get to get to grips with the muddy conditions after heavy rain and sleet shortly before kick-off.

Robertson did well to knock the ball dead when the Tigers were first to threaten with a clever kick from Rangi Chase.

Mark Bryant was then halted just short of the try line as the Broncos had a spell of pressure.

Castleford went ahead in the 13th minute when Jamie Ellis made an opening for Jordan Tansey, whose inch-perfect kick to the corner saw winger Kirk Dixon grab a try that Ellis converted from the touchline.

This setback seemed to sting the Broncos into action and winger Liam Colbon was bundled into touch near the corner flag by four Tigers defenders as the visitors tried to quickly reply.

Tansey then thwarted Kieran Dixon with a superb try-saving tackle when London's other wingman burst clear from within his own half.

Further London pressure culminated in them levelling the scores after 27 minutes.

Craig Gower put in a neat kick near the try line and, when Castleford's Ellis failed to keep hold of the ball, Bailey pounced for a simple touchdown that Witt goaled.

Castleford regained the lead six minutes later when prop Craig Huby showed his strength by shrugging aside two would-be tacklers to force his way over and Ellis converted to put the home side 12-6 up at the break.

Ellis made amends for his first-half blunder when he smothered Witt's kick over his own try line early in the second period as a London try looked on the cards.

But the Broncos soon turned the game on its head with an 18-point scoring burst.

A well-worked move saw Shane Rodney put in Robertson before Gower darted over from close range.

Gower's kick then set up Bailey's second try and Witt added all three conversions to put the Broncos 24-12 ahead.

The Tigers tried to get back in the game but were let down by handling errors when they got within striking distance of the try line.

And their fate was sealed 10 minutes from time when Witt kicked a penalty goal to seal London's win.
