Elland Road to host 'epic' Gillette Fusion World Club Challenge in 2010

The 2010 Gillette Fusion World Club Challenge between Leeds Rhinos and Melbourne Storm will be staged at Elland Road, Leeds, on Sunday February 28.

The annual showdown between the engage Super League champions and their counterparts from the NRL will return to the home of Leeds United FC for the third successive year and will be a repeat of the 2008 world title decider.

Then, a crowd of 33,204 saw Leeds complete a thrilling victory over Melbourne Storm, who will not be short of motivation as they bid to avenge that 11-4 defeat. The match also gives the Rhinos an opportunity to exact revenge over the Australian champions following their 28-20 defeat by Manly Sea Eagles last March.

Gary Hetherington, the Chief Executive of Leeds Rhinos, said the engage Super League champions were relishing the chance to claim a third Gillette Fusion World Club Challenge crown.

"The players have been talking about the World Club ever since they reached the dressing room at Old Trafford after beating St Helens in the Super League Grand Final last Saturday," said Hetherington.

"We have had some epic games in the Gillette Fusion World Club Challenge, none more so than against Melbourne last year, and this one promises to be the best yet".

"There was a time when the Australian champions perhaps didn’t take this event as seriously as the Super League champions do but as we've seen in the last few years, winning the World Club Challenge means as much to them as it does to us".

"Melbourne Storm have a remarkable record in the NRL and Leeds have won an unprecedented hat-trick of engage Super League titles - these two sides have consistently been the best in the world so the stakes have never been as high as they will be on February 28 next year."
