Round 10 Team of the Week

Away teams reigned supreme in round 10 as all 5 visiting clubs claimed victories away from home. League leaders Catalans Dragons home fixture against Leeds Rhinos was postponed due to Covid-19, giving St Helens and Wigan Warriors the chance to bridge the gap at the top of Betfred Super League.

However, St Helens were toppled by rivals Warrington Wolves in a gruelling contest on Thursday Night. Wolves captain Jack Hughes leading by example during a spirited display in the back row. Teammate and recently announced Player of the Month Gareth Widdop swapped attacking flair for defensive grit as he finished with 34 tackles during their 6-2 win against the Saints.

Wigan Warriors also fell short during their clash with Hull KR on Friday Night. Half back Mikey Lewis – who likely wouldn’t have featured if both Rowan Milnes and Jordan Abdull were fit – showed us why he’s an exceptional young talent, setting up 2 tries during the Warriors demise. From a youngster to a veteran, Ryan Hall continued his impressive 2021 form, running for 164 metres from 20 carries, as well as scoring his 12th try of the season to move even further ahead at the top of the try scoring charts.

On Wednesday Night, Castleford Tigers made it 15 consecutive wins against West Yorkshire rivals Wakefield Trinity – Peter Mata’utia produced a Man of the Match performance for the Tigers and finished the night with a try, an assist, 12 tackle busts, 2 clean breaks and 181 metres from 19 carries.

Ian Watson faced his old side Salford for the first time on Friday Night, with the Red Devils earning just their second win of the season away at Huddersfield in what was their eighth consecutive away win at the Giants. Hooker Andy Ackers was integral to Salford's success, ending the night with a try, a clean break and 51 tackles.

Hull FC turned on the style during their 64-22 win at bottom of the table Leigh. The black and whites had 9 different players on the scoreboard against the Centurions, including a hat-trick for back row Andre Savelio. Full back Jake Connor was also on the score sheet – he scored a try and set up 4 more in an utterly dominant attacking display from Hull.
