Masoe seals Saints switch

Wellington-born front row forward Mose Masoe has been granted a release by Penrith Panthers to enable him join team-mate Luke Walsh at St Helens from next season.

The 24-year-old Masoe, who is 6ft 4in and weighs more than 18 stone, has signed a two-year contract and is expected to be a straight replacement for Australian prop Josh Perry.

"Mose is a big forward who will add a lot of size to our pack next year," Saints coach Nathan Brown said.

"He is young, still developing and will complement the squad we are putting together for 2014.

"We're delighted to have secured his services and once again we'd like to thank Penrith Panthers for agreeing to release him from his contract early."

St Helens last month announced the signing of Panthers scrum-half Walsh, also on a two-year deal.

Masoe, who has been selected in the train-on squads for both New Zealand and Samoa, spent three years at Sydney Roosters before joining Penrith at the start of this season but has made only seven appearances so far.
