Russell is Wolves number one

14th November 2013

Scotland international Matthew Russell looks set to succeed Brett Hodgson as Warrington Wolves’ first-choice full-back after being handed the number one jersey for 2014.

The 20-year-old former Wigan Warriors junior has joined the Wolves on a two-year contract after spending the 2013 season with Gold Coast Titans.

The versatile Stefan Ratchford was expected to take over the full-back role when Hodgson was released from the final year of his contract at the end of last season but he has been given the newly-retired Lee Briers' number six shirt, suggesting he will be Richie Myler's new half-back partner.
