Castleford Tigers coach Daryl Powell has called on French club Catalan Dragons to cut out the foul play.
Powell was left seething by a "cannonball" tackle from prop Julian Bousquet on Tigers full-back Jordan Tansey that he claims could have ended Tansey’s career.
The Rugby Football League, who on the eve of the First Utility Super League season had ordered a clampdown on players throwing themselves at the legs of opponents who are stood up in the tackle, have given Bousquet a four-match ban for the challenge on Tansey during Sunday's game at Castleford.
"It was a pretty horrendous tackle," Powell said. "He's fired himself into Tansey's legs. There is just no place for that in the game.
"He's a big man to be firing in tackles like that. It was unbelievably dangerous; it needs to be taken out of the game.
"Jordan is not too bad thankfully but something like that can finish your career, going in that hard on the side of your legs. He's been pretty lucky."
Bousquet's disciplinary hearing came just a week after his team-mate Olivier Elima, the French national captain, was given a four-match ban for twisting the legs of Hull FC hooker Aaron Heremaia during the Dragons' opening match of the season.
"There is a little bit of naughtiness in there," Powell added. "It was a shocking tackle by Elima.
"I know their coach was talking about getting an even share of the disciplinary but I think there's a couple of things from them that have been pretty poor. They need to tidy them up pretty quick I'd say."
Last season Bousquet served a four-match ban for an illegal shoulder charge and team-mate Zeb Tai was given a three-match suspension for a similar offence.
The Catalans will be severely depleted for the visit of Leeds Rhinos to Perpignan on Friday night as they search for their first win of the season.
Australian scrum-half Scott Dureau, who made just eight appearances in 2013 after overcoming surgery to remove a brain tumour, is facing a four-month lay-off with a ruptured bicep and full-back or winger Damien Cardace will miss the first home game after he picked up an ankle injury against the Tigers.
