Hull KR have laid down the gauntlet to attract another bumper crowd to the KC Lightstream Stadium next month when they target a new record attendance for matches against Huddersfield Giants.
The two teams collide in the 18th round of the First Utility Super League on Thursday, June 26th in a game that will help to raise funds for the Yorkshire Regiment Benevolent Trust.
In celebration of such a worthy cause, and with the Robins set to wear a new limited-edition military shirt for the fixture, the club is now aiming to top the 8,731 people who watched the sides compete at Craven Park five years ago, the current record between the clubs in the modern era.
Speaking to www.hullkr.co.uk, chief executive Mike Smith says the game could also follow in the footsteps of clashes against Leeds and Hull FC earlier this year by breaking the 10,000 barrier for the third time this season.
He said: “This is a very important game for ourselves and our charity partners and it would be fantastic to set a new record attendance for a Super League match between these two proud and historic clubs.
“At the start of the season, our chairman set the target of selling out the opening game against the Rhinos and barring one or two spare seats, we achieved that goal.
“Once again, there will be quite a big drive behind the scenes to push us towards our objective this time round and the marketing team have come back with some really exciting plans to help us get there.
“I’m very confident not only of breaking the Huddersfield record but also of hitting the 10,000 mark for the third time this season, which would be a terrific achievement and part of our strategy to take the club forward and compete in the upper echelons of Super League over the coming years.
“With the game also helping to raise vital funds for our brave servicemen and women and their families, I’m sure the supporters of both clubs will rally round and make it an evening to remember at the KC Lightstream Stadium.”
Tickets for the Huddersfield game are on sale now from Hull KR’s retail store in Savile Street as well as online at www.hullkr.co.uk/tickets.
Further details on fundraising opportunities and matchday entertainment at the fixture will be confirmed in due course, with the club also set to announce details of an After Party at Pozition nightclub for those attending.
A collection date for fans who have pre-ordered their limited-edition military shirt for the game will be also be confirmed this week.
