They have contested some of the most compelling finals of recent times and fans are advised to move quickly to secure their seat at the latest showdown between Warrington Wolves and Leeds Rhinos when they meet in a Tetley’s Challenge Cup semi-final at Langtree Park on Saturday (2.30).
The Wolves have twice triumphed over Leeds at Wembley Stadium, winning 30-6 in 2010 and 35-18 two years later, when the Rhinos went on to exact sweet revenge by defeating Warrington 26-18 in an epic Super League Grand Final at Old Trafford.
With honours having been shared in their two meetings this season, Saturday’s match is one of the most eagerly-anticipated semi-finals in the competition’s long and colourful history.
“Leeds and Warrington have treated us to some of the most exhilarating matches in recent years,” said RFL Director of Marketing Mark Foster. “These two clubs really are heavyweights of the modern game.
“Since 2009, fans have gathered in their hundreds of thousands to watch Challenge Cup finals featuring either or both Leeds and Warrington. Almost 400,000 fans have watched finals featuring these two clubs in the last few years and this semi-final is likely to be the most cut-throat contest of all.
“Langtree Park is a world-class facility and the perfect venue for a match of this stature.
“It is fantastic to see Leigh Sports Village completely sell out for Sunday’s semi-final between Widnes and Castleford and I am sure the two of the sport’s most passionate and committed groups of fans will pack out the stands at Langtree Park on Saturday.
“The West Stand at Langtree Park has already sold out but tickets are still available elsewhere in the stadium and I would urge supporters to move quickly to make sure they will be there to see an historic fixture.”
