BWSL: Round 2 Preview

After a blockbuster opening round, the Betfred Women's Super League returns this weekend (April 27/28) with another four salivating fixtures to look forward to.

After going straight to the top of the Super League table following a 66-4 defeat of Huddersfield Giants in Round 1, Leeds Rhinos will kick the weekend off on Saturday when they take on Warrington Wolves at AMT Headingley Stadium (KO 12pm).

Lois Forsell's side couldn't have asked for a better start to their campaign as hat-tricks from Zoe Hornby, Lucy Murray and Evie Cousins helped them beat Huddersfield in front of a home crowd. Warrington also opened their season with a 34-28 win over newly promoted Featherstone Rovers but face a Leeds side that beat the Wolves in the Challenge Cup quarter finals a fortnight ago.

Reigning champions, York Valkyrie, clinched a dramatic victory against St Helens in their opening fixture and will travel to promoted side Barrow Raiders in Round 2. The two sides met for the very first-time last year with the Valkyrie coming away 44-4 victors. That day saw seven different York players cross the whitewash so Amanda Wilkinson will be hoping for a better defensive effort from Barrow this time around.

Wigan Warriors welcome Featherstone Rovers to Robin Park Arena on Sunday. Historically the fixture has been a close contest with Wigan defeating their opponent by only two points in their last meeting. The Rovers however will be looking for their first Super League win on Sunday having lost out to Warrington last weekend.

St Helens will close the round off when they make their long-anticipated return to the Totally Wicked Stadium where they face Huddersfield Giants. The Giants have failed to score against Saints in all of their previous seven meetings - including a recent 74-0 loss in the Challenge Cup which saw Leah Burke cross for a hat-trick for the first time since returning from injury.
