Warrington Wolves powered to a 24-10 victory against Hull FC after a second-half flurry of tries ensured they came from behind to win their first Super League away game this season.

After drawing in their first encounter on the road against Wigan Warriors, the Wolves went one better this time as they came from 6-4 down at the turnaround to clinch a hard-fought triumph.

The first half was a battle between two solid forward packs and the scoreline at the break was testament to the home side's defence.

Hull could not withstand a second-half barrage, though, and two tries apiece for Joel Monaghan and Chris Riley added to a Micky Higham score to pull the Wire clear.

The visitors headed into the game without key playmaker Lee Briers and powerful forward Ben Westwood, who was serving a one-match suspension for fighting.

Richard Horne was given a guard of honour by his team-mates before the game, commemorating his 350th game for the club.

Warrington started strongly and scored inside the first four minutes.

Michael Monaghan earned his side a penalty with a clever dummy-half run that got the Wolves into position. From there, they spread the ball left and an excellent pass by Brett Hodgson found Riley for the try in the corner.

Hull turned the tide with the help of some great play by Danny Houghton. After chip kicking for himself and forcing an error from Hodgson with a ferocious hit, he then showed great speed of thought to provide Joe Westerman with the short pass to crash over on 10 minutes; Ben Crooks converted to give Hull a two-point lead.

Warrington then spurned an opportunity when Trent Waterhouse was held up after collecting Richie Myler's kick.

The visitors were almost made to pay when Shannon McDonnell broke down the middle but Westerman narrowly failed to find Tom Lineham, who would surely have gone over just before the break.

Back-to-back penalties gave the home side some second-half relief but Mark O'Meley knocked on close to the line. The Wolves received their own relieving penalty, and a Stefan Ratchford cross-field kick forced a drop-out.

Warrington, camped on the Hull line, forced another drop-out off Myler's grubber kick just before the hour mark.

It was third time lucky when Ratchford's kick high across the field found Joel Monaghan, who towered above Hull winger Tom Briscoe to score. Hodgson converted the crucial try and made it 10-6 with 20 minutes remaining.

An error by Danny Tickle handed the Wolves another set, which they utilised when Myler broke the line from a Chris Hill offload and found Riley in the corner for his second try, giving Warrington a two-score lead.

Warrington extended their advantage as Michael Monaghan skipped free and two passes later Micky Higham scored under the posts, Hodgson converting for a 14-point lead.

The visitors added another score when Joel Monaghan collected Myler's kick and touched down. The video referee gave Crooks a late consolation try.
