Round 23 Preview

The Final Charge is ON and here’s what we can expect in Round 23 of the Betfred Super League…

Thursday 21 August

Leeds Rhinos v Hull KR (20.00) – live on Sky Sports

It doesn’t get much bigger than this – who’s ready for a mouthwatering showdown between 1st and 4th, as well as a taste of 2026 Las Vegas?!

The Rhinos host the Robins as The Final Charge kicks off live and exclusively on Sky Sports.

Can Leeds continue their stellar season? Or will Hull KR almost certainly seal the League Leaders’ Shield with a win at AMT Headingley tonight?

Both of their encounters this year have been truly captivating – first it was Mikey Lewis’ match-winner at Headingley in Round 7, before Leeds pulled off a sensational 8-14 victory at Sewell Group Craven Park – becoming only the second team to beat KR at their fortress in 2025.

And their third match-up is expected to be just as fiery!

For the hosts, Mikolaj Oledzki returns to the squad having recovered from a fractured cheekbone in July. New loan signing Joe Shorrocks also comes into the mix with the pair replacing the Academy duo of Jacob Stead and Zak Lloyd who were named in the 21-man squad for the first time last week.

For the visitors, there's only one change as Tyrone May returns from his two-match suspension to replace Jared Waerea-Hargreaves who begins his.

Friday 22 August

St Helens v Hull FC (20.00) – live on Sky Sports

There’s plenty riding on Friday Night’s fixture at the Totally Wicked Stadium - and it promises to be an epic encounter.

Saints are soaring and are searching for another important victory, while Hull FC will be hoping to strengthen their position in sixth.

St Helens have won their last nine home meetings with the Black & Whites and have hit a purple patch at the most crucial stage of the season.

If the hosts were to win and other results go their way, then Paul Wellens’ men could find themselves sitting in second come the end of Round 23…

Curtis Sironen returns to the Saints 21-man squad, while there have been numerous changes to this week's Hull team.

Their huge win over Leigh Leopards came at a cost, with John Cartwright losing Will Pryce (foot), John Asiata (hamstring) and Liam Watts (head) to injury. Those three have dropped out of the 21-man squad ahead of the trip to the St Helens town.

But they will certainly be boosted by the return of Jordan Rapana, Ed Chamberlain and Brad Fash, who are all available again following their respective injuries. These players come into the squad for Friday.

This game will also see the two sides contest for The annual Steve Prescott Cup - with the team that has the highest aggregate score across the 2025 home and away fixtures winning the trophy. Saints are the current holders.

Leigh Leopards v Salford Red Devils (20.00) – live on Sky Sports+ and SuperLeague+

Leigh Leopards begin their run of home games in The Final Charge as they welcome Salford Red Devils to the Leigh Sports Village - and will look to get off to the best possible start.

Saturday 23 August

Catalans Dragons v Castleford Tigers (18.00) – live on Sky Sports+ and SuperLeague+

There’s Saturday Night Super League in the south of France as Catalans host Castleford, where pride and professionalism is at stake.

The French side have the better record, having won their last six home meetings with Chris Chester’s side. The Tigers' last victory at Stade Gilbert Brutus was over eight years ago.

The Dragons produced an impressive first half showing against Warrington in Round 22, but couldn't quite close out the game.

They are without a win in six matches - can they finally give their fans something to cheer about?

A win for Cas, however, would see them move level on league points with Catalans.

Sunday 24 August

Huddersfield Giants v Warrington Wolves (15.00) – live on Sky Sports+ and SuperLeague+

It really is do or die for Sam Burgess’ side on Sunday afternoon.

They are four points adrift from Wakefield in the table but have a chance to capitalise and close this gap when face the Giants away in Round 23.

Will the Wolves find form in The Final Charge and somehow save their season?

Wigan Warriors v Wakefield Trinity (15.00) – live on Sky Sports+ and SuperLeague+

There are Play-Off permutations in this fixture, as Wigan have the chance to secure their Play-Off place for 2025 and stay second in the table.

On the other hand, Wakefield are chasing down Hull FC for sixth spot and will be targeting Sunday’s trip to The Brick as they embark on their Final Charge.

Prepare for a blood and thunder battle, as both teams look to return to winning ways after disappointing losses in their last outings against Hull KR and St Helens respectively.

It’s Wigan who have won their last nine home meetings with Wakefield, although Daryl Powell’s side were victorious against the champions earlier on this year at the DIY Kitchens Stadium (16-10) - one of their proudest scalps in 2025.
