Wakefield Trinity Community Foundation: The Big Feed Project

The Wakefield Trinity Community Foundation’s The Big Feed project has started, as they aim to help vulnerable families over the Christmas period.

The initiative, part of The Big Project announced in February this year, aims to supply meals to families in and around the Wakefield district struggling to provide a healthy meal over the winter months.

The initiative, supported by Wakefield Council and Wakefield District Housing, will take place from the 22nd December through to Christmas Eve, and then will restart from 27th December to New Year’s Day and hopes to help provide healthy meals to those in need throughout the festive period.

There will be two time-slots for pickup, the first being 11am-1pm and then again 2-4pm, with all food being freshly-cooked on-site – by LD Nutrition - and can be picked up – by car or foot – from The Mobile Rocket Stadium or Rycroft Leisure Centre.

Alternatively, if individuals or families are unable to get out for collection, the Foundation have devised a hotline ready for orders, which can be delivered throughout the day. To place an order, please call 01924 211 611.

The kitchen will not remain open on Christmas Day or Boxing Day, however, families can collect more than one meal to support themselves over this extended two-day period.

Over the course of the last month, Wakefield Trinity Community  Foundation have been inundated with response in connection with the project, with over 100 volunteers offering support.

Due to the increase in numbers, the Foundation has upped their meal target from 100 per day to 200 and hopes to supply over 2000 meals throughout the eight-day event.

This project is partnered with three sibling campaigns, The Big Sleep, The Big Festival and The Big Listen, which aim to provide awareness of homelessness and youth mental health, respectively, but due to ongoing issues with Covid-19, these three projects have no announcement date, as of yet, for 2021.

The Big Feed campaign comes at a time where, due to unprecedented times of uncertainty, unemployment within the UK stands at 5.2%, with an estimated 14 million people within the UK live in poverty.

Alongside this, with the recent news regarding redundancies in the UK, there is no better time to offer support and help to those in need over the Christmas period.

Simultaneously running with the event, the Foundation have teamed up with both Cash Wise and Turning Point, offering support to those who need it.

Everyone at the Foundation would like to thank volunteers in advance for giving up their time to help a worthwhile cause and make a difference in times of extraordinary hardship.
