Round 8 Team of the Week

It was points galore in round 8 of Betfred Super League as Warrington Wolves and Leeds Rhinos hit 60. Catalans Dragons decimated front runners Wigan Warriors, ending their unbeaten run and moving joint top alongside the Warriors and St Helens.

Warrington blew Salford Red Devils away on Thursday Night – Toby King celebrated 100 Super League appearances and a new 4-year deal at the Wolves with a monster performance. The centre finished with 2 tries, 1 assist, 8 tackle busts, 5 offloads and 221 metres from 20 carries during a dominant Warrington showing.

The exciting and versatile Jack Welsby helped himself to a hat-trick as Saints romped past Hull FC. Welsby deputised on the wing in round 8 and crossed for 3 tries during Saints’ 34-16 home win.

Meanwhile, the Rhinos left the Mend-A-Hose Jungle with a huge result as they thrashed Castleford Tigers 60-6. The Rhinos had 9 different players on the score sheet with Kruise Leeming crossing for 2 – his first try coming off the back of a brilliant offload from veteran prop Matt Prior.

Catalans Dragons made it back-to-back wins against the top 2 after toppling the Warriors in the South of France. It was an utterly dominant Dragons performance with talismanic full-back Sam Tomkins leading the charge with a 2 try haul.

Jordan Abdull continued his fine run of form against the Centurions on Sunday – the half-back set up 4 tries during their 40-16 win against Leigh. Ryan Hall climbed to the top of the try scoring charts in Super League after scoring his second hat-trick of the season.

Wakefield Trinity had to wait until round 7 for their first win of the year and backed that up with a huge win at home against Huddersfield in round 8. Trinity were in scintillating form against the Giants with the ever-influential Joe Westerman leading the charge, scoring a try and setting up another.
