Sinfield honoured with OBE

Seven-time Grand Final winner and current Leeds Rhinos Director of Rugby, Kevin Sinfield has been awarded the OBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list.

Sinfield receives the accolade for services to Rugby League and charitable fundraising following his incredible 7 in 7 Challenge of 7 marathons in 7 days for Rob Burrow and MNDA at the end of 2019.

An astonishing £2.7m was raised for the charities as a result of Sinfield’s endeavours whilst also helping to raise the profile of the cruel disease that is MND.

Super League Interim Chairman, Ken Davy said of Sinfield: “I am sure the whole of Rugby League will join me in congratulating Kevin on receiving this much deserved award in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list.

“The spirit and determination shown by Kevin in support of his friend and former teammate epitomises the spirit of the Rugby League family and I am sure the whole of our sport will welcome this honour.??

Also named in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list were;

Rimla Akhtar (RFL Non-Executive Director): awarded the OBE for services to Equality and Diversity in sport.

Stephen Ball (General Manager, Rugby League Benevolent Fund): awarded the MBE for his services to Rugby League charities.

Martin Blondel (General Manager of the Steve Prescott Foundation): Awarded the MBE for services to the community in St Helens, particularly during Covid-19.

Nigel Wood (Chairman of Bradford Bulls): Awarded the OBE for services to Rugby League Football.
