RUGBY league - like society in general - has been through an incredibly tough two years.
But it now stands in front of a huge opportunity with Channel 4 showing live Super League on terrestrial television for the first time.
It’s such a great chance to grow the sport and take it to a whole new audience.
When rugby league is played at its best, it’s the greatest team spectacle you will see, full of brutal intensity and unbelievable athletic ability.
What this deal with Channel 4 brings is an opportunity to make our players household names again, like they were in the days of Ellery Hanley and Martin Offiah.
There are lots of rugby league fans all around the country that can now tell their mates that they can watch the sport without it costing them anything.
It might not become their first choice of sport, but it could become their second favourite and that brings a chance to grow our game.
What the sport needs to do is take advantage of this, showing games with packed houses and top teams every time it's on Channel 4.
