Round 12 predictions

Huddersfield Giants v Wigan Warriors

Round 12 kicks off with a dress rehearsal for the upcoming Challenge Cup Final. After both teams won their Challenge Cup semi-finals over the weekend, they meet for just two weeks ahead of their clash in London at the end of the month, and gives both sides a chance to sound each other out.

But there’s plenty more on the line than just that. Wigan are chasing top spot whilst Huddersfield’s recent dip in form means a win is needed to maintain their push for the top four.

Both sides have made changes to their 21-man squad but should field relatively strong sides. And rest assured, they’ll be vying to get one up on each other as the build up to their blockbuster final begins.

Prediction: Warriors by 4

St Helens v Hull FC

Saints will be hurting after their Challenge Cup exit. A strong response will be expected as their full focus now turns to the league.

They face a Hull FC side that have found some welcome form following three wins on the bounce – and Brett Hodgson’s side will be refreshed after a week off, as well as welcoming several key men back.

Hull FC have struggled against St Helens in recent meetings and the Champions are a formidable prospect at the Totally Wicked Stadium. The Black & Whites will need to faultless to churn out a result.

Prediction: Saints by 8

Catalans Dragons v Warrington Wolves

The Dragons and Wolves meet for the second time this season - Catalans had a depleted squad during their round 4 clash with Warrington but fought valiantly to earn a win away from home.

In fact, Warrington’s last home game was another disappointing loss which has left them seventh as we head into Round 12. Daryl Powell’s side need a response – and it won’t be easy. Catalans are a tough side to beat – particularly in France – meaning the Wolves have their work cut out on Saturday Night.

Warrington will need to win the battle in the middle – something they’ve struggled to do consistently this year. And if they don't this week, Catalans could run riot.

Prediction: Dragons by 12

Catalans Dragons and Warrington Wolves will meet again in Newcastle at the 2022 Magic Weekend. Be the difference and bring the noise at St James' Park by purchasing tickets here.

Toulouse Olympique v Wakefield Trinity

A game of huge significance. A win for Trinity will see them move six points clear of bottom place Toulouse, giving Wakefield fans some reassurance of Super League survival. However, a win for Toulouse on Sunday and their bid to avoid relegation steps up a notch.

All eyes will be on Toulouse’s squad in Round 12 – they’ve picked up two players with NRL experience in the shape of Corey Norman and Daniel Alvaro. Those two acquisitions could be key during the final two thirds of the year.

Trinity have the upper hand over Toulouse thanks to a home win in Round 5, but Toulouse have performed better on home soil – especially after beating the Champions in March.

Prediction: Toulouse by 1

Toulouse and Trinity will go face-to-face in Newcastle when they meet at the 2022 Magic Weekend. Bring the noise and join us this summer by purchasing tickets here.

Salford Red Devils v Leeds Rhinos

Ninth v tenth. Another eye-catching fixture at the bottom of the table. It’s almost inconceivable to imagine the Rhinos in a relegation fight after all their pre-season promise – but seven points from their opening eleven games means they’ve got some work to do.

The Red Devils are level on points with second-bottom Trinity and could slip into eleventh if they taste defeat and Wakefield get the job done in France. After winning their first two games, Salford have won just one of their last nine – and that was against Sunday’s opponents.

Despite two promising performances which saw the Red Devils almost beat the top two over the past two rounds, Leeds will be out for revenge.

Prediction: Rhinos by 6

Castleford Tigers v Hull KR

The Robins crashed out of the cup over the weekend, but it will be the manner of that defeat which is most disappointing to their fans. That loss comes after a defeat in Round 11 against Leeds which brought an end to an impressive four game winning run in the league for Tony Smith's side.

Similarly, Castleford had their own four game winning run ended in Round 11 away at Catalans, setting up an intriguing battle at the Jungle this Sunday.

Cas should be refreshed after a week off whilst Hull KR will be desperate to put the disappoint of Saturday behind them.

Prediction: Tigers by 2
