Maurice Lindsay: 1941-2022

Super League is saddened to hear the news of the passing of Maurice Lindsey.

His contribution to Rugby League is unparalleled.

He was integral in establishing Wigan Warriors as one of the biggest clubs in the world and recruited many of their famous names over his many years in charge at the club.

From a governing body point of view he was both chief executive of the Rugby Football League and Super League. He was the driving force in establishing Super League in 1996 and changing the shape of the sport in the UK.

Ken Davy, chair of Super League said: "Super League sends its deepest condolences to the family and friends of Maurice at this very sad time. 

"His impact on the game cannot be overstated. Rugby League in this country wouldn’t be in the position it is now without him and his vision for the sport."
