Whitley extends Dragons stay

Matt Whitley has signed a two-year contract with Catalans Dragons. The England Knights International has put pen to paper on a contract extension that will secure his future at the Gilbert Brutus Stadium until the end of the 2024 season.

The 26-year-old back-rower joined the club from the Widnes Vikings in 2019 and has scored 28 tries in 71 appearances for the Dragons.

He quickly became a key player in the Catalans’ pack and has played 13 games this season, scoring 4 tries with an average of 35 tackles par game.

On signing his extension, Whitley explained: "I’m really excited to be staying at the Dragons and really looking forward to the next two years!"

Head coach Steve McNamara added: "Matt has been a great addition to us since his arrival and he continues to grow and impress as a young man and a player. We are delighted he has agreed a new contract."
