French named July Player of the Month

Bevan French has been named July Player of the Month following a record-breaking month for Wigan Warriors.

French is the second Warrior to win the award this year and does so after a monumental month of try scoring and eye-catching displays.

With voting based on Rounds 17 to 21, French was the overwhelming winner of this month’s award thanks in part to a huge 15 tries in five games.

The 2020 Man of Steel finalist scored braces of tries against both Wakefield Trinity and St Helens in the opening two weeks of July, before a record-breaking performance at the DW Stadium against Hull FC.

French crossed for seven tries – breaking Leslie Vainikolo’s previous Super League record for most tries in a single game – during a devastating display for the Warriors in Round 19.

After scoring away at Leeds in Round 20, French helped himself to a hat-trick against Hull KR to finish the month with 15 tries. He has also become Betfred Super League’s leading try scorer in 2022 thanks to his try scoring antics in July.

The versatile French was overjoyed to be named Player of the Month and admits how much he is enjoying playing in this Wigan side. He explained: "I'm very delighted to be voted Player of the Month, I'm grateful to be a part of such a winning side over the last couple of months, it's been really good!"
