Round 10 Preview

Round 10 of the Betfred Super League is here, where 1st to 8th place sees just four points separate the teams. Every two points from every round are proving to be crucial…

Thursday 2 May

Wigan Warriors v Catalans Dragons (20.00) – Sky Sports

Thursday night sees a Grand Final rematch between Wigan Warriors and Catalans Dragons, where a cracker is set to unfold at the DW Stadium and live on Sky Sports.

It's 2nd v 3rd in the Betfred Super League table as both sides look to battle it out for a place at the top. Both suffered disappointing defeats last week to the likes of Hull KR and Leigh Leopards, so will be seeking a strong win in Round 10.

Their last meeting came under the lights at Old Trafford, in which the Warriors clinched a scintillating 10-2 victory to be crowned the Champions. Will we witness another tight encounter?

Matt Peet has made just two changes to his 21-man squad as Mike Cooper and Tiaki Chan are replaced by Liam Byrne and Sam Walters.

Similarly, the Dragons are boosted by the return of two key players for Thursday’s showdown - Mike McMeeken is back from suspension, and Jordan Abdull has been given the green light from medical staff to play this week.

Friday 3 May

Warrington Wolves v Hull FC (20.00) – Sky Sports

The Wolves will look to bounce straight back to winning ways when they welcome Hull FC on Friday, live on Sky Sports.

Sam Burgess’ men suffered a narrow defeat to Salford in Round 9 and will be without their young half-back Leon Hayes for approximately six months, due to an ankle injury sustained during that game.

Zane Musgrove returns to the fold following an ankle injury with youngsters Arron Lindop and Cai Taylor-Wray also included.

Matty Ashton is side-lined with a minor toe injury with James Harrison and Jordy Crowther not included.

The Black and Whites will make their second visit to the Halliwell Jones Stadium this year, after Warrington beat them 36-10 in Round 2.

Simon Grix’s men are boosted by two potential huge returns as Jake Trueman features in the 21-man squad for the first time this season. Trueman suffered an ACL injury in the latter stages of the 2023 campaign – could he be the key for FC on Friday?

Tom Briscoe could also be on the cusp of making his second debut for the club, in over a decade since his last outing.

It was a much improved performance from Hull FC on Sunday against Leeds Rhinos, but will the Wolves prove too strong?

Huddersfield Giants v Salford Red Devils (20.00) – Sky Sports + SuperLeague+

Huddersfield begin their run of home games on Friday, as they entertain Salford Red Devils.

While the Red Devils will be boosted by their dramatic Round 9 win, the Giants will be determined to bounce back after their heartbreak at St Helens last Thursday.

There is little to separate the two sides this year, and the two points on offer could be crucial in the race for the Play-Offs.

Ian Watson’s men have won three of their last four games in Super League but have suffered poor home form in 2024. They will need to be alert when Paul Rowley’s men come to town, for Salford have won the last eight away meetings at the Giants.

Watson welcomes Esan Marsters back into his side this week, whilst the Red Devils have Brad Singleton and Chris Hankinson in their team – but will be missing Amir Borouh and King Vuniyayawa.

Leeds Rhinos v London Broncos (20.00) – Sky Sports + SuperLeague

Leeds Rhinos will play hosts to London Broncos on Friday, as they look to record back-to-back wins.

The Rhinos have failed to find a level of consistency so far this season. They have lost their last three games at AMT Headingley but will look to go well against a winless Broncos.

Their star winger Ash Handley has been included in the 21-man squad which is a massive uplift for the Rhinos, with 19-year-old Riley Lumb also retaining his place after a dream debut last weekend.

Leeds will be without centre Paul Momirovski for the foreseeable future, as he joins the club’s ever growing injury list.

Mike Eccles has named an unchanged London side to travel to the Rhinos, with their last away victory at Leeds being in 2019 - the year the Broncos were last in Super League. London clinched a win 16-18 on this occasion, but what action will unfold this time around?

Saturday 4 May

Hull KR v St Helens (15.00) – Sky Sports and SuperLeague+

Hull KR made a real statement beating the Champions last weekend and will take on the current league leaders Saints this week, as they look to go level on league points with the Paul Wellens’ table toppers.

Saints however, come into this tie having won four out of their last five games, and know they will need to win to stay above the teams who are viciously circling below.

It was one a piece last year where league results were concerned, but the Robins’ current home form could be a decisive factor in Saturday’s game.

Hull KR have won nine of their last ten matches at Sewell Group Craven Park and have formed a genuine fortress over in East Hull.

Can Saints extend their lead at the top with a win? Or will high-flying Hull KR continue to be challengers?

Leigh Leopards v Castleford Tigers (17.30) – Sky Sports and SuperLeague+

Round 10 comes to its conclusion in Saturday’s final fixture where Leigh Leopards at home to Castleford Tigers.

It’s a tense clash between two teams who are hoping to break further away from the bottom of the league table.

Both teams come into this game on the back of brilliant wins, but which team will go back-to-back?

The Leopards did complete the double over the Tigers last year, but there have been a lot of changes in either side since then…
