BWSL: Round 8 Round Up
14 Jul 2024

Round 8 of the Betfred Women’s Super League kickstarted with an intense local derby at The Brick Community Stadium, which was shown live on Sky Sports.
Wigan v Saints did not disappoint, but it was St Helens who came away with the spoils to overtake their rivals at the top of the Women’s Super League table.
Saints had the best of the opening half as a Rachael Woosey double saw the visitors in at the break with a 10-0 advantage.

A tight second half contest then saw Ellise Derbyshire cross for Wigan before Vicky Whitfield responded for St Helens. Eva Hunter's try for the hosts finished off the contest, but Wigan fell to a narrow 16-12 defeat in the Derby.
On Sunday, Leeds Rhinos and York Valkyrie enjoyed huge wins and are now level on ten points each.
The Rhinos put fifty past their opponents away at Warrington, crossing for five tries in each half. Amy Hardcastle starred with a hat-trick as her side returned to winning ways.
Meanwhile, Lindsey Anfield’s Valkyrie made it four wins on the spin with a dominant 62-0 home victory against Featherstone.
A Savannah Andrade hat-trick inspired York to their outstanding eleven-try victory, with Tara Jane Stanley kicking nine goals on the afternoon.
Finally, the round concluded with Huddersfield entertaining Barrow at Laund Hill. It was a closely fought contest which saw the Raiders go 0-12 up inside the opening 20 minutes.
Jodie Morley and Claire Hutchinson crossed for Barrow, but the Huddersfield responded through Amelia Brown in the first forty.
Vanessa Temple’s try on the hooter then gave the Raiders a 4-18 lead at the break.
It was to be Barrow’s day from then on, despite an attempted comeback from the Giants in the second half, with Brown completing a double. However, this was not enough to overcome Amanda Wilkinson's women - and the hosts' winning streak would come to an end in Round 8.
