Round 13 Round Up

Round 13 kicked off with a Thursday night thriller as Huddersfield Giants hosted Leigh Leopards.

The Leopards survived a late fightback from the Giants to register a 24-28 win at the John Smith’s Stadium.

Tries from Isaac Liu and Ben McNamara in the first forty, before second half scores from David Armstrong, Lachlan Lam and Frankie Halton, would secure the victory for the visitors.

Tries from Adam Swift, Sam Halsall and Leroy Cudjoe set up a frantic finish, after George Flanagan went in for Huddersfield's opening try.

There was a Friday night feast of Betfred Super League action as Hull KR and Warrington Wolves ensured they would head to Wembley with wins under their belts.

The Robins cruised to a remarkable 28-4 lead at the break against St Helens, with entertaining scores from Jack Broadbent (x2), Peta Hiku, Mikey Lewis and Elliot Minchella.

This included three tries right before the interval.

Star man Lewis scored the only points of the second stanza (34-4), but his side remain the top of the league table as their focus switches to Wembley week.

The Wolves will also go into Saturday’s Betfred Challenge Cup Final on a high, as they defeated Castleford Tigers, 34-24.

Sam Burgess’ men scored six tries against the Tigers, leading 22-6 at the break with tries from Josh and Jake Thewlis, Rodrick Tai and Arron Lindop.

Although Castleford attempted a comeback in the closing stages, Wire always kept in control and claimed a very important two points to lift their spirits before their big final at the national stadium.

The third game on Friday saw Wigan Warriors produce a dominant 6-46 display away at Salford Red Devils' place, which included a Jacob Douglas hat-trick and Jai Field double.

On Saturday, emotions were high at AMT Headingley Stadium as Leeds Rhinos emerged victors in their annual MND Awareness game (22-18).

Remembering Leeds hero Rob Burrow CBE almost one year since his passing, the Rhinos resisted a fightback from rivals Wakefield Trinity to record an emphatic win.

The hosts took a comfortable lead at half-time after tries from Jake Connor, Harry Newman and Riley Lumb – Connor having a 100% success rate with the boot.

In a match of end-to-end action, Trinity’s sole effort in the first half came from Lachlan Walmsley in the corner, with the visitors striking twice through Max Jowitt in the second to create a grandstand finish.

Leeds, however, held out for their sixth win in seven Super League games.

The round then concluded with Hull FC thrashing Catalans Dragons, 0-34, in the south of France.

Will Pryce bagged a breath-taking brace, with the Black & Whites' other scores coming from Herman Ese'ese, Lewis Martin and Davy Litten.

It’s a break away from Betfred Super League action next weekend as Betfred Challenge Cup Finals Day takes place.

Round 14 of the Betfred Super League next gets underway on Friday 13 June.
