Catalans win at Camp Nou in front of record attendance
18 May 2019
A new Betfred Super League attendance record was set at the Nou Camp in Barcelona as a powerful second-half display saw Catalans beat Wigan 33-16 in front of a crowd of 31,555.
The previous biggest gate for a regular Super League game was 25,004 for a Wigan versus St Helens derby in 2005 and the Dragons took this game to the capital of Catalonia to raise their profile.
It followed their historic Challenge Cup final over Warrington at Wembley last August which led to the Dragons being invited to play a home fixture at the Nou Camp by Barcelona FC.
McNamara's men held a slender 8-6 lead at the break after Michael McIlorum and Liam Marshall traded scores, but they ran amok in the second half as David Mead (2), Samisoni Langi and Sam Kasiano touched down.
Victory ended Catalans' 10-match losing streak against the Warriors.
