Round 3 preview

Thursday 2 March

Warrington Wolves v Salford Red Devils (20.00) - Sky Sports Arena

Warrington's immaculate start to the 2023 Betfred Super League season will be put to the test by last year's Play-Off Semi-Finalists Salford Red Devils.

Paul Rowley's side travel to the Halliwell Jones Stadium following a disappointing defeat at home against Hull KR last time out.

Daryl Powell makes just one change to his squad after last weeks win at Huddersfield. Luke Thomas is included in the 21-man squad for the first time in 2023, replacing Matty Russell.

Alex Gerrard drops out of Salford's squad after aggravating an existing injury against the Robins last week. Gerrard was introduced from the bench in Round 2 but Paul Rowley admitted this week that Gerrard wasn't fully fit and will now spend an extended period on the sideline.

Friday 3 March

Catalans Dragons v Hull FC (18.00 UK) - Stade Gilbert Brutus

After two wins from their opening two games, Catalans and Hull FC will put their 100% records on the line when they face off in the South of France on Friday.

Former Black & White Manu Ma'u could make his Super League debut for the Dragons against his former club after being named in Catalans 21-man squad. Fellow off-season recruit Siua Taukeiaho could make his Super League debut for the Dragons, whilst Tyrone May and Mike McMeeken also return from injury.

England captain Sam Tomkins drops out of the Catalans squad, along with Matty Whitley, Loan Castano and Tanguy Zenon.

Ligi Sao is included in Hull FC's 21-man squad this week - the World Cup finalist could make his first appearance in 2023 having sustained a dead leg during pre-season. Similarly, Jamie Shaul is also included and could feature for the first time this season.

Scott Taylor will miss the Black & Whites trip to France after picking up a one-match ban for a Grade C dangerous contact charge against the Rhinos in Round 2.

Wakefield Trinity v Huddersfield Giants (19.45) - Be Well Support Stadium

Both Wakefield and Huddersfield go in search of their first win of the season when they meet in Round 3 on Friday.

Trinity have been dealt a huge blow after the news that star back rower Kelepi Tanginoa is set for a period on the sidelines after picking up an injury against Wigan last week.

He joins full-back Max Jowitt in the casualty ward ahead of Trinity's West Yorkshire clash with the Giants.

Kevin Naiqama drops out of the Giants squad in the only change to their Round 2 squad. Front rower Nathan Mason comes in to replace the Fiji captain.

Castleford Tigers v Wigan Warriors (20.00) - Mend-A-Hose Jungle

Castleford will be aiming for their first win of the 2023 season when they host Wigan Warriors in Round 3 on Friday Night.

Lee Radford has made three changes to his squad following a defeat to World Club Champions St Helens last Sunday, with Alex Sutcliffe, Daniel Smith and Suaia Matagi all returning. Joe Westerman and Mahe Fonua are again included despite not featuring in Round 2, whilst Jordan Turner and Jake Mamo both miss out.

Matt Peet is forced into just one change in Round 3, with Joe Shorrocks dropping out of the Warriors 21-man squad after joining Leigh Leopards on a two-week loan. Youngster Junior Nsemba comes into the squad after being recalled from his loan spell at Betfred Championship side Whitehaven.

Hull KR v Leigh Leopards (20.00) - Sewell Group Craven Park

The Robins head into Round 3 after an important win away Salford last week. Willie Peters side are two from two so far this year and face a Leigh team still searching for their first win back in the top flight.

Hull KR are boosted by the return of Lachlan Coote, Ryan Hall and Rhys Kennedy in Round 3. The trio missed last weeks trip to Salford due to injury. Dean Hadley drops out of the 21-man squad after picking up an injury against the Red Devils.

Joe Mellor could feature for the first time in 2023 after being included in the Leopards 21-man squad. Edwin Ipape is also back in contention - the PNG international missed his sides trip to France last weekend.

Joe Shorrocks could make his Leopards debut after joining the side on a two-week loan from Wigan.

St Helens v Leeds Rhinos (20.00) - Sky Sports Arena

The Champions return home for the first time since their heroic World Club Challenge win against Penrith two weeks ago. Paul Wellens enjoyed a winning start to the Super League season last week, defeating Castleford Tigers at the Jungle.

The Rhinos travel to St Helens in a repeat of the 2022 Grand Final. Rohan Smith's side are still searching for their first win of the new campaign after an indifferent start to the season.

Tommy Makinson returns to the Saints squad after completing return to play protocols following a head knock against Penrith two weeks ago. Curtis Sironen is also included after missing out last week due to illness. James Roby and Agnatius Paasi are still unavailable through injury.

Rohan Smith makes three changes to the squad that narrowly missed out against Hull FC last week. Morgan Gannon sustained a head knock and will now follow the return to play protocols, whilst Leon Ruan and Luis Roberts also drop out.

Liam Tindall comes into the squad after a successful spell at Bradford Bulls on dual registration, alongside Jack Sinfield and Irish international James Bentley.
