Round 2 Team of the Week
26 Feb 2024

Off the back of a brilliant start to the 2024 Betfred Super League season last weekend, it was another action-packed Round 2.
But who features in this week's Team of the Week?

Super Jack Welsby features in this week's Team of the Week having starred in St Helens' 0-28 victory over Huddersfield Giants on Saturday, with one try and one assist, as well as an all-round solid effort. Curtis Sironen also joins his team-mate in the side, after playing an integral role in Saints' comfortable and second consecutive win.

Ash Handley makes his second successive appearance in Team of the Week having produced even more individual brilliance in Round 2. An impressive 191 metres in 15 carries and another sensational length of the field effort means Handley is having a dream start to the 2024 season. But unfortunately for Leeds, this solo try alone was not enough for them to claim the two points, as Hull KR went on to triumph in a tight encounter.

A trio of Robins feature this week, as Ryan Hall, Jez Litten and Elliott Minchella would all contribute significantly to the Robins' second win of the season. Their Player of the Match, Hall, came up with a brilliant first-half try and an impressive 160 metres made in just 16 carries. The 36-year-old winger also edges ever closer to breaking the all-time Super League scoring record on the back of this try in the second round.
Similarly, his team-mate Litten was Mr. Reliable with the boot, kicking 5 from 5 conversions, and contributing in defence with 39 tackles. Minchella also gave an outstanding effort in both attack and defence, with 41 tackles made in the game.
Salford's newcomer Nene MacDonald and general Marc Sneyd make their first 2024 Team of the Week appearances, as does second-rower Sam Stone. Three assists from the reliable Sneyd earned him a place, whereas a stunning try from MacDonald contributed to the Red Devils' first victory of the campaign. Stone also bagged a brace in his side's home opener on Sunday - a key man for his side in their clinching win over Castleford.

Toby King shone for Warrington, as he scored his first try in Wolves colours since his return to the club. Powerhouse Paul Vaughan was also a stand out performer in Round 2, making an astounding 182 metres in 17 carries. This included a huge carry in the 60th minute, as three Hull FC defenders struggled to bring him down. Both of their efforts ensured Warrington would secure their first win of the 2024 season on home turf - also registering Sam Burgess' first victory as a head coach.

For Catalans, Theo Fages and Chris Satae starred in Round 2, as the Dragons capitalised in the capital, with a 0-34 victory over London Broncos. Their individual efforts mean that they feature in this week's Team of the Week, as Fages continued to enjoy the perfect start to life as a Dragon - playing a pivotal role in Friday's win. The playmaker's two tries comfortably extended the Dragons' lead, as Steve McNamara's men achieved back-to-back victories.
