Sam Burgess named Betfred Coach of the Month

Warrington Wolves Head Coach, Sam Burgess, has been named the Betfred Super League Coach of the Month for July.

The Wire celebrated a perfect set of results in July, defeating Huddersfield Giants, Leeds Rhinos, St Helens and reigning Super League champions Wigan Warriors.

Burgess led Warrington in what was arguably one of the performances of the season in Round 18, as they beat St Helens at The Totally Wicked Stadium.

Brilliant first half scores from Matty Ashton and Matt Dufty, who dummied and raced away in trademark style, put the Wolves 12-0 up at the break – despite the Wolves being reduced to 12 men in the early stages.

The hosts continued to apply the pressure but couldn’t quite capitalise nor overcome a strong defensive display from their opponents, who were even down to 11 players at one point, Warrington winning 24-10.

That impressive defensive display was then followed up with a dazzling attacking performance at The Brick Community Stadium in Round 19 as the away side ran in seven tries on the night.

It was a spectacular performance with Ashton, Arron Lindop, Adam Holroyd and Rodrick Tai all crossing the whitewash during the 4-40 rout.

One member of the voting explained their support of Burgess below:

“Same Burgess has brought Warrington Wolves back on track after their Wembley hangover and in some style with statement wins over Saints and Wigan and racking up points for fun. The introduction of young talent into the squad shows Burgess has faith in youth and a system which allows players like Aaron Lindop or Adam Holroyd to slot in easily.”
