Round 21 Preview

Round 21 of the 2026 Betfred Super League gets underway TONIGHT, and did you know that it’s just over two months to go until Rugby League’s biggest night at Old Trafford?

With seven rounds to go until the end of the Betfred Super League regular season, top six places are up for grabs and seasons are on the line.

Teams across the competition are fighting to secure the best position they possibly can – who will edge one step closer this week?

Thursday 30 July

Huddersfield Giants v Hull FC (20.00) - live on Sky Sports+ and SuperLeague+

A basement battle kicks off Round 21, with hosts Huddersfield desperate to avoid the wooden spoon.

They face Andy Last’s Hull FC, who are sitting just one place above them in the league ladder.

The Giants will be boosted by their victory in the previous round, having picked up their first two points since early April, as well as ensuring their head coach Jim Lenihan experienced his first winning in charge.

The Black & Whites have won just once in their last ten matches, although their last win in the competition did come against the Claret & Gold.

Arguably, it’s been a season to forget for both sides, but heading into these final few weeks, they will want to finish as positively as they possibly can.

Friday 31 July

Leigh Leopards v Wigan Warriors (20.00) - live on Sky Sports

The second instalment of the Battle of the Borough is upon us, as Leigh Leopards entertain Wigan Warriors under the Friday Night Lights.

Both rivals are in red hot form, and both occupy places in the top six. Wigan are also involved in the League Leaders' Shield race, which adds further significance to tomorrow's game.

Whose winning streak will come to an end?

The Leopards will have erased their most recent encounter against their nearest and dearest from memory, which saw the Warriors thrash them 54-0 at The Brick Community Stadium.

Adrian Lam’s men have come a long way since then, however, and have won their last five matches.

Likewise, the Warriors have won their last eight.

One thing’s for certain - we should expect plenty of fireworks at the Leigh Sports Village!

Hull KR v Bradford Bulls (20.00) - live on Sky Sports+ and SuperLeague+

The champions are back on home soil and will be hoping to return to winning ways at Sewell Group Craven Park after suffering defeat to Wakefield Trinity - their first loss at home in over a year!

It’s the Bulls pay a visit to East Hull in Round 21 - a place where they haven’t tasted victory since 2012.

Sitting in sixth with Saints just behind them in seventh, Willie Peters’ men are not yet guaranteed a Play-Off place for 2026.

This means the final rounds are crucial for the Robins if they are to have any chance of defending their title.

Bradford have four teams, including Hull KR, left to play this season who are in the top six. Can the Bulls cause any upsets and to have a say on the final league standings?

Leeds Rhinos v Toulouse Olympique (20.00) - live on Sky Sports+ and SuperLeague+

It’s hard to look past a strong victory for the league leaders on Friday, especially at AMT Headingley Stadium.

However, Toulouse are notorious for producing a shock result or two - we only have to cast our minds back to Round 18 when they put St Helens to the sword away from home.

A rampant Rhinos will be hard to stop though, as they look to strengthen their place at the top of the tree for another week. 

Saturday 1 August

Castleford Tigers v Warrington Wolves (15.00) - live on Sky Sports+ and SuperLeague+

There’s another triple-header to enjoy on Saturday, starting with Castleford hosting Warrington.

Both teams will be hoping to perform much better than they did in Rivals Round Returns.

Their last meeting came in Round 5, where the Wolves demolished the Tigers, 72-6.

York Knights v St Helens (17.30) - live on Sky Sports+ and SuperLeague+

Saints are undefeated in their last 19 meetings with York, having won 18 and drawn one. On Friday, they will travel to the LNER Community Stadium, hoping to make it 20.

It is a very important match for the Saints, who are fighting for their spot in the top six.

Did you know that the Red V have never ever missed out on the Play-Offs, across the whole 30-year history of Super League?

Catalans Dragons v Wakefield Trinity (20.00) - live on Sky Sports

An interesting clash in Perpignan concludes the round.

Despite Wakefield’s incredible run of form at present, which sees them take up second in the table, it’s another tough fixture for Daryl Powell’s troops to tackle, with Trinity's last victory at Stade Gilbert Brutus coming in February 2018.

The visitors also endured heartbreak in their 2025 trip to France, with Reimis Smith snatching a victory for Catalans in Golden Point extra time.

There is an outside chance that the Dragons could still reach the Play-Offs if other results were to go their way, although it would also mean that every game has to be a must-win from this point on.
