Jake Connor on the Hull derby

“I think we owe them a bit of a payback."

If you’re not a Hull FC fan, Jake Connor, is most probably the man you love to hate - the pantomime villain - but the man you’d love to have in your team.

In the blink of an eye he can change the game – quick-thinking, sharp hands, innovative kicks – he’s what a derby game is made for.

Hull FC will host Hull KR at the KCOM Stadium, at the start of the season, Connor was unavailable for the reverse fixture due to picking up a suspension in a pre-season fixture, but he says FC are here for revenge.

“I think we owe them a bit of a payback, we thought we had it in the bag, fair play to them they didn’t give up and they played till the very last minute.

“I think we’ll just brush that game under the carpet and hopefully we can repay the fans on Friday,?? said Connor.

Connor admitted that it was a ‘crazy feeling’ to play in the Hull derby and he’s happy that he doesn’t live in Hull…

“It’s a crazy feeling, I kind of get away with it because I live outside of the city but for the players that live inside the city, they get pestered and if they see a KR fan, they’ll get a bit of stick.

“Just playing in a Hull derby is an achievement in Rugby League, not many people get to play in them and when you do, you’ve just got to take in every moment.

“It’s very rare you get an atmosphere like that at a Rugby match.

“I don’t think the atmosphere gets much better, it compares to Saints versus Wigan and you’ll never know unless you play in it.

“Those two games are the best for the atmosphere in Super League, the hairs stand up on the back of your neck when you walk out, and you know how much it means to the fans and how much passion they have,?? he said.

Rivalries blow the form table and stats out of the window and Connor admitted: “It’ll come down to whoever wants it most on the day.??

Watch the game live on Sky Sports on Good Friday at 12:45PM.
