Salford Red Devils 26-16 Castleford Tigers

Salford Red Devils moved into the top five of Betfred Super League following a 26-16 victory over Castleford Tigers.

Australian scrum-half Jackson Hastings was once again inspirational for the Red Devils with a try and two assists while full-back Niall Evalds notched his 17th Super League touch down of the season.

Evalds and Lee Mossop put Salford 12-0 ahead and although Daniel Smith went over for Castleford, Hastings made it 18-6.

Efforts from Greg Minikin and Jordan Rankin cut the gap to two points at half-time, but Derrell Olpherts touched down after the interval and Krisnan Inu kicked a late penalty for the hosts.

Salford coach Ian Watson said: “We have put ourselves in a great position. It’s what we worked hard for in pre-season and it’s great to be in the top five.

“The league is outstanding at the moment because it’s so close. There’s a long way to go but like London Broncos, we are proving a lot of people wrong at the moment.??

Castleford coach Daryl Powell said: “It’s pretty frustrating. We are trying to piece our game together and we are just not that great at the minute. As a team we are just not firing.

“We can’t find accuracy and fluency in attacking positions to score points which is something we’ve been able to do in the past. We just have to keep going."
