Top Five Full Backs

Who have been the best full backs in Super League this year?

Four players heading into the 2019 Super League Play-Offs have made the top five full backs in my poll, with a Young Player of the Year nominee also named.

5. Jack Walker

Walker has had his best try-scoring year since making his debut for Leeds, this year, he’s also been nominated for the Young Player of the Year. He’s been directly involved in 18 tries and has an average of 120.6 metres per game.

4. Stefan Ratchford

Ratchford missed a period of games with a torn pectoral muscle, his form before that saw Warrington battling for first position with Saints, and he came back to win the Challenge Cup. This season, he’s been directly involved in 11 tries and scored 82 goals.

3. Zak Hardaker

Hardaker’s return to Super League has been impressive, Wigan’s start to the season was poor, but Hardaker was one of the shining lights in Adrian Lam’s side. Wigan spectacularly turned their form around to finish second in the season; Hardaker was directly involved in 23 tries and 89 goals.

2. Niall Evalds

One of the main reasons for Salford Red Devils’ push into the play-offs, Evalds has had a stand-out year for Salford, he hasn’t missed a game all season, and finished one try off the top try-scorer, Tommy Makinson. Evalds was directly involved in 35 tries and made 2513 metres.

1. Lachlan Coote

The St Helens full back had big boots to fill after the departure of Ben Barba in the off-season, Coote arrived from North Queensland Cowboys and quickly became a fans’ favourite. His stats this year are impressive; kicking 95 goals, scoring four 14 tries and making 22 assists.
