Abdull returns to Hull

Hull Kingston Rovers are delighted to confirm the return of Jordan Abdull to the club on a two-year deal!

The half-back was part of the Robins’ 2017 line-up that secured promotion back to Super League at the first time of asking, with Abdull playing an integral role throughout the campaign.

Having returned to parent club Hull FC the following year, Abdull then joined London Broncos for their top-flight comeback in 2019. However, having enjoyed his time in east Hull, the 23-year-old put pen to paper at Rovers until the end of 2021 at the earliest opportunity.

Speaking to KRTV, Abdull said: “I’m very excited to come back to the club. I really enjoyed my time here in 2017. I’m just glad now that we have got the deal over the line and I can look forward to progressing my career.

“I want to kick on even more from this year. I feel I had my most consistent year of my career and as a half-back you need to be playing week in, week out.??

Abdull was once again a key cog in London’s machine during their 2019 season, but ultimately he couldn't prevent the Broncos being relegated from the Super League on points difference.

Though relieved to see the Robins survive, Abdull is keen to draw on his experiences in the capital as he takes on a leadership role from 2020.

“It was a bit nerve-wracking watching it all unfold towards the back end of the year, with the deal being done so early, but I made my intentions clear,?? Abdull added.

“I signed at the first opportunity that I could and wanted to come home to play in front of these fans again. Now that the nerves have gone, I can’t wait to get going.

“The boys were really good last time, and had that togetherness. The fans always gave me a good reception even though I was on loan from Hull FC at the time and I’m looking forward to making my family proud once again.

“I’ve had a lot of game-time in 2019 and I want a good pre-season here to show Tony Smith (head coach) that I am experienced to drive a team around the park.??

Smith commented: “I have loved watching Jordan play, particularly this year. He played a big part in what was a successful year for the Broncos and having spoken to Jordan, he’s learned so much and is now in a position where he’s matured as a young man and player.

“He feels he is ready for that next big challenge and maintaining those Super League standards – he’s excited about that.

“He’s returning to us after a successful loan spell a couple of years ago and he fits nicely into our recruitment category of ‘young and hungry’, with still a lot to prove in his career. I’m really pleased that he wants to do that back at Rovers.

“I particularly like how Jordan reads the game. He is a good talker, a good communicator and very mature. I like that approach and attitude and that is key towards leading a team around at such a young age. I’m sure he’ll do a great job back here at Hull KR.??
