Catalans sign Tom Davies
Catalans Dragons are pleased to announce the signing of Wigan Warriors winger Tom Davies
Davies, 22, signed a two year contract and will arrive tomorrow in Perpignan.
Tom Davies said: “I’m very excited about getting over to France and meeting up with all the boys, coaches and getting back into training. Catalans is a huge club with a massive future and they’re making history with everything they do and that’s something I’m honoured to be a part of. I know how much Steve and the squad want to win trophies and that’s what really drew me to the club knowing they had big ambitions. I’m looking forward to a big year in 2020 and helping the team in any way I can.”
Having progressed through the Wigan Youth Development System, Davies was named u19s Player of the Year in 2016 and made his Super League debut in 2017.
He made 24 appearances during his debut campaign, scoring 14 tries and was named joint Wigan Young Player of the Year.
He signed a five-year contract extension in 2018 and was named in the squad for the 2018 England Knights Tour of Papua New Guinea, playing in both games.
He scored a try in the 2018 Grand Final win against Warrington Wolves.
An ankle injury he suffered in April 2019 sidelined him for the rest of the season.
Davies is a winger who makes lots of metres, as shown in April 2018 when he made 309 metres in the win over Catalans Dragons, which was the second highest metres made ever in a Super League game
Catalans Dragons headcoach Steve McNamara said: “Tom is an outstanding addition to our squad. He is a young player who loves to carry the ball in yardage, has outstanding speed and power and knows his way to the try line. After meeting him and seeing his enthusiasm to join our team I had no hesitation in signing him. I feel we now have very healthy competition for places in our outside backs and we look forward to his immediate arrival at the club.”
