Paul Sculthorpe: My Ultimate Team

Paul Sculthorpe’s Ultimate Super League Team

1. Paul Wellens

Mr Consistently Brilliant. Always reassuring knowing Wello was behind you. Won everything in the game. (notable mention- Steve Prescott & Kris Radlinski)

2. Jason Robinson

Probably the best athlete to play the game. An absolute freak on his feet. No surprise he went to the very top in the other code too.

3. Jamie Lyon

Two years in SL, and what an impact he had. A naturally gifted talent, who stamped his name in St Helens history forever. Man of Steel in his first season in SL

4. Paul Newlove

Probably the most devastating attacker I’ve had the pleasure to play alongside. A big man, who just glided through defenders with pace and agility. A player I always admired coming through in the sport. (notable mentions - Keith Senior, Gary Connolly & Martin Gleeson)

5. Darren Albert

Probably the fastest man I’ve played with. Albie was a revelation at Saints, a born try-scorer and someone who once in the clear you could switch off and walk back!

6. Danny McGuire

Mags will go down as one of the stars of the SL era. A key figure in that successful Leeds era. A prolific try-scorer and big game player. Great to play alongside at GB. (notable mentions - T Martyn, L Briers & L Pryce)

7. Sean Long

Mercurial talent. A major piece of the success we had at Saints. Won everything in the game. A player at his best on the big stage, coming up with Championship plays when needed.

8. Stuart Fielden

Early 2000’s probably the best prop in the world…say no more. A big unit who loved the physical side of the game.

9. Keiron Cunningham

I’d say consistently the best player I’ve played with. Kez devastated defences for years, and put me in for many a try! Has a statue for a reason...

10. Adrian Morley

Moz was a no-nonsense player who’s game was based on bashing players! Not always within the rules, but someone you’d always want on your team. The first player to win a Grand Final in both SL & NRL. (notable mention - D Fairleigh..only one year in SL but as good as any prop)

11. Jamie Peacock

His career speaks for itself. A true warrior of the game who never took a backwards step, either in SL or International.

12. Chris Joynt

A great mentor to me. A true leader who lead with his performance. Another player who played his best on the big occasion. Will forever be remembered for the greatest SL moment IMO..’Wide to West’! (notable mentions - Lee Gilmour & Gareth Ellis)

13.  Andy Farrell

Like CJ, a born leader. Had everything in his game, big, strong, skilful, vision, kicking game. Being a bit younger, Faz was always a role model for me. Had our run-in’s over the years!!!..because we're both ultimate competitors, but I have the upmost respect for him. (notable mentions - Sean O’Loughlin & Kevin Sinfield)
