Preview: Round 13

Betfred Super League returns this week with a full round of fixtures following a break for the Challenge Cup last weekend. With five games full action there is bound to be some big talking points this week...

Hull KR v Leeds Rhinos (2:45pm KO, Thurs 24 Sept)

These two teams last met just six days ago as Leeds triumphed 48-18 in the quarter-finals of the Challenge Cup.

Tony Smith was forced to re-shuffle his team this week with Will Dagger, Matty Storton and Ethan Ryan all missing through injury. His 21-man squad could see a first appearance in 2020 for Jimmy Keinhorst along with a possible debut for Will Tate. Ryan Brierley is also set to return to the side having been sidelined with an injury since Round 10.

Richard Agar welcomes back Adam Cuthbertson and Brett Ferres this week with youngsters Sam Walters and Jarrod O'Connor both included in the 21-man squad. Alex Sutcliffe will sit out the game as he completes a two-match suspension whilst Brad Dwyer misses out as he continues his recovery from Covid-19. Konrad Hurrell, Bodene Thompson and Corey Hall, are self isolating having been identified by track and trace from contact with Brad Dwyer.

Hull FC v Salford Red Devils (6pm KO, Thurs 24 Sept)

Andy Last will be looking for back-to-back wins as his side face Salford in Round 13. Two changes to this weeks squad with Jamie Shaul and Josh Bowden set to return. Adam Swift, Scott Taylor, Josh Jones, Albert Kelly, Kieran Buchanan and Ratu Naulago all remain unavailable for selection due to injury.

Ian Watson's team return to Super League action for the first time in three week and he will be hoping they can carry over their Challenge Cup form into the league. Kallum Watkins is set to make his Super League debut for his hometown club having featured in the Cup game last week. Salford will also welcome back Andy Ackers and Oliver Roberts into the 21-man squad for this week.

Castleford Tigers v Huddersfield Giants (8:15pm KO, Thurs 24 Sept)

Daryl Powell will be hoping to put cup heartbreak behind him this week as Tigers return to league action. Matt Cook and Jack Sanderson are named in Powell's 21-man squad for the first time this season. Returning this week Gareth O'Brien and Jesse Sene-Lefao whilst Adam Milner serves a one-match suspension and Sosaia Feki, Peter Mata’utia and Jake Trueman miss out due to injury.

Giants Interim Head Coach, Luke Robinson has named a 20-man squad to face Castleford this week. Robinson recalls Lee Gaskell to the squad for the first time in six weeks (thumb injury), while Owen Trout, Dominic Young and Robson Stevens are included in the squad. New signing Chris McQueen will be hoping to add to his tally of tries for the club having opened his account against Wakefield Trinity last week.

Warrington Wolves v Catalans Dragons (6pm KO, Fri 25 Sept)

Steve Price's Wolves team are on a hot run of form at present, winning the last eight games in all competitions. Another win this weekend could see them top the table. Wolves will no doubt be boosted by the return of Gareth Widdop who replaces Stefan Ratchford in Price's only change to the squad named for last week’s Challenge Cup win. 

Steve McNamara brings Tom Davies back into his squad this week as the team look to turn round back-to-back defeats in the last two weeks including a golden point heartbreaker against Salford in the Challenge Cup.

Wigan Warriors v Wakefield Trinity (8:15pm KO, Fri 25 Sept)

Adrian Lam made three changes to his 21-man squad this week as Ben Flower, Liam Byrne and Chris Hankinson return to replace Mitch Clark, Dom Manfredi and Harry Rushton. The Warriors will be hoping to make it three wins in a row with victory Wakefield on Friday, following victories over Catalans Dragons and Hull FC in the last fortnight.

Chris Chester's Trinity team are doing it hard at the moment, currently sitting bottom of the table and on a six match losing streak in the league. Several players return to the fold this week including David Fifita and Tinirau Arona but it is the return of Tom Johnstone which could give Trinity the boost they need.
