Covid-19 Testing Update: 30 September

The kick-off of tonight’s fixture between Huddersfield Giants and Hull KR at the John Smith’s Stadium has been put back to 7pm after four positive tests at the Huddersfield club.

The test results were received this morning, and required conversations with Public Health England and a thorough investigation of the situation to ensure the safety of all involved, leading to the decision to put back the kick-off from 530pm as originally scheduled.

None of the four positive tests involved players involved in last week’s fixture. Two were for players in rehabilitation after injury, and the other two were for non-players who have not been in contact with the playing group.

The club are awaiting the result of the retest of one more player, who has been instructed to self-isolate until those results are received.

In total this week, there have been 578 tests for Covid-19, with 574 negative results, and the four positives at Huddersfield.

There are three fixtures remaining in the Betfred Super League this week, as follows:

Wednesday September 30:

Leeds Rhinos v Catalans Dragons (6pm);

Huddersfield Giants v Hull KR (7pm);

Thursday October 1:

Castleford Tigers v Hull FC (745pm, live on Sky Sports).

Season ticket holders of Huddersfield, Hull KR, Leeds Rhinos, Castleford Tigers and Hull FC will be able to access their team’s match via the Our League app.

Additional guidance

• Clubs cover the costs of their testing.

• Every player or member of staff who attends the training ground, prior to entering the site, must complete a screening protocol to detect any symptoms in a manner devised by the Club Doctor.

• Players and staff will also be required to complete a daily medical questionnaire submitted before arrival at the training ground on training days. If this is not submitted before arrival, access to the training ground will be denied.
