Dacia Community Hero of the Month: Andrew Perry

Mr Andrew Perry has been named June’s Dacia Community Hero of the Month for his wonderful commitment to raising money and awareness for the MND Association.

Congratulations and thank you to Andrew, who has taken home the trophy and will be heading to Newcastle this September for Magic Weekend, courtesy of Dacia.

Andrew Perry is a beloved and valued member of the Wakefield community, known for both his skills on the field, and leadership off the field. Andrew represents Wakefield Trinity’s Community Integrated Care Learning Disability Super League team, regularly attending training session and competing in fixtures.

Mr Perry’s friend and nominator told us “Andrew organised and took part in a sponsored walk to raise awareness and funds for Rob Burrow and MND. Throughout the experience, Andrew has made a huge difference, committing to different venues, raising both money and raffle prizes to support what the MND Association do??. 

“Here at Wakefield Trinity we know him for his skills as an LDSL player, so when he asked the club to get involved, we had no hesitation in helping him on his way. Despite the struggles faced, Andrew, his family and friends, completed a walk from Wakefield to Barnsley in just under three-and-a-half hours, walking over 8 miles in that time. 

"Even though many found it difficult, Andrew rallied them to the finish line, completing the walk and raising over £850. With Rob Burrow day just finishing, we can think of nobody who has worked harder for his community and MND than Andrew Perry??.

 Steve McCormack, Head of Welfare at Rugby League Cares, selected the winner and said: "The work and dedication Andrew has shown recently to raise money for Rob Burrow and MND is fantastic. His recent charity walk, along with family and friends, from Wakefield to Barnsley, is a brilliant achievement??.

He added: “Andrew is a great example and role model to all. Congratulations on the award??.
