Betfred Super League returned over the weekend and it was filled with unmissable games, unbeatable drama and unrivalled talent. There were no signs of rustiness from the competition’s top performers in round one - Catapult Sports have collated the benchmark stats from a blockbuster opening weekend.
Wigan Warriors’ Jai Field could not have wished for a better return to the Wigan first team on Friday Night. After a disastrous 2021 season, Field returned with a bang and put on a masterful display away at Hull KR. He was awarded Player of the Match for his performance and scored arguably the try of the round.

Field chased down a superbly placed Cade Cust kick from the scrum to score a breath-taking 4 pointer in the first half. He raced away out of his own half to collect the ball and cross the try line, hitting an impressive maximum speed in the process. Field clocked a massive 36.1 km/h max speed and looked unstoppable as he glided in full flight.

Elsewhere, Danny Houghton did what he does best against Wakefield Trinity on Sunday afternoon. The industrious Houghton is a workhorse – he made 55 tackles in round one and played the full 80 minutes in the middle for the Black & Whites. His tireless efforts reflected in his distance covered during the game, too – Houghton covered 9421 metres against Trinity – more than any other player in round one.

Back to Jai Field. In addition to hitting the top max speed during the opening weekend, he also covered the second most distance, too – a solitary 2 metres less than Hull FC’s Danny Houghton. Field worked incredibly hard on Friday Night and did so at a high intensity, as well. He clocked the highest metres per minute intensity across the competition during his performance on Friday Night, scoring an impressive 102.8 m/min. Field firmly put the horrors of last season behind him and performed at a hugely impressive level for the Warriors in the process.

The action continues in round two with six unmissable games across Super League - four of those will be broadcast live. First, Daryl Powell's Warrington Wolves face his old club, Castleford Tigers, live on Sky Sports on Thursday Night.
Jai Field and Wigan Warriors will look to continue their winning start when they host Leeds Rhinos live on Sky Sports on Friday Night. That's followed by Super League's second fixture on Channel 4 on Saturday Afternoon when Champions St Helens travel to Hull FC.
