He left his hometown club to join NRL side New Zealand Warriors in 2014, scoring 14 tries in 37 NRL games before returning to Wigan after two seasons Down Under.

He joined the Dragons in 2019 and was named in the 2021 Super League Dream Team, and was also named Steve Prescott MBE Man of Steel, as well as helping Catalans lift their first ever League Leaders Shield. He has scored 25 tries and 305 points in 69 games since arriving at the Dragons.

Captain of the England team, Tomkins has represented his country on 25 occasions, scoring 18 tries.

On signing a one-year extension, Tomkins explained: "I am really happy to have signed a new contact to take me into my 5th year at the Dragons. We are a club on an upward trajectory and it’s a great to be a part of it. This is home now for me and my family so it was a very easy decision to extend my stay with the club.

Steve McNamara, Catalans Dragons head coach added: "Sam has been outstanding for us since his arrival. His performances and leadership on the field and integration within our whole organization off the field have made him a firm favorite. We are very happy to extend his deal into 2023.
