Peet named Betfred Coach of the Month for August

Matt Peet has been named Betfred Super League Coach of the Month for August after steering his Wigan Warriors team to wins in each of their three fixtures including last weekend's emphatic triumph against Catalans Dragons in Perpignan.

It is the second time Peet has won the award this season, with his previous recognition coming for April when Wigan were also unbeaten, including their Good Friday win against St Helens.

The award was presented live on Sky Sports before tonight's Round 24 fixture against Salford Red Devils at the DW Stadium.

"It's a pleasure to receive the award on behalf of the efforts of the team," said Peet. "Hopefully we can build a decent run of form now."

Wigan started August with a 64-6 demolition of a much-changed Hull KR team, the weekend before the club's appearance in the Betfred Challenge Cup Final, but it was a different story two weeks later when they welcomed Hull FC to the DW, and a Harry Smith drop goal in golden point extra time secured a 13-12 win.

That sent the Warriors to Perpignan in good spirits to face the league leaders, and they stunned a packed Stade Gilbert Brutus with a 34-0 win which kept the battle to finish top of the table very much alive.

The Betfred Coach of the Month is decided by a panel of experts.

Previous winners this season are listed below.

The Betfred Super League Coach of the Year is decided by a secret ballot of each of the 12 clubs, with the winner to be announced as part of Rugby League's end of season Awards Night at Emirates Old Trafford on Tuesday October 10.
