Round 25 round-up

Round 25 of Betfred Super League kicked off with four games on friday evening. The opening clash of the round saw relegation threatened Wakefield take on Catalans, with the French side still chasing top spot. The Dragons came flying out the blocks and raced into a 12-0 lead inside 17 minutes which they maintained into the break. The second half began very much like the first, with Tom Davies bagging himself a try in the 61st minute. Wakefield began a laboured comeback thanks to two late tries, but it proved to be too little too late for the home side as they were defeated 10-18.

Play-Off hopefuls Hull KR went in search of their third win on the bounce away at Huddersfield on friday night. The Giants took an early lead after just 6 minutes, but the Robins reacted quickly and were back ahead as the first half ended after Shaun Kenny-Dowall and a returning Jordan Abdull crossed for tries. Second half scores from Louis Senior and Kane Linnett extended the Robins' gap and secured a crucial two competition points for Hull KR to elevate them into fifth place.

Fans were treated to a clash between third and fourth place with the Saints hosting the Leopards for Friday nights Sky Sports coverage. Oliver Gildart put Leigh ahead in the eighth minute to get Leigh off to the perfect start. However, it didn't take long for Saints to reply - a Tommy Makinson try in the 16th minute drawing the tie level heading into half-time. The game was on a knife edge throughout the second half with Saints pulling away to earn two points against the Leopards.

Castleford welcomed Hull FC to the Jungle on Friday night in search of a vital win in their quest for survival. THe returning Jason Qareqare impressed for the Tigers as he crossed for a brace, while Greg Eden, Alex Foster and former Black & White Jordan Turner also managing to get on the scoresheet to secure a win that has all but confirmed the Tigers' Super League status for 2024.

It was a tough afternoon for The Rhinos as they fell to a thumping defeat to Wigan on Saturday. The demolition began in the 14th minute after a Jake Wardle try in what proved to be a sign of things to come. A first half brace for Wardle along with tries from Jai Field and Liam Marshall gave the away side a 22-0 half time lead. The dominance continued in the second half with Jake Wardle scoring his third of the day and record Wigan's best win at Headingley whilst also putting them back top of the Super League table.

The final game of Round 25served up a classic between Salford and Warrington, with Sam Stone winning it for the Red Devils in golden point. Tries from Ben Hellewell and Brodie Croft gave Salford a 12-6 lead at the break. Warrington fought their way back into the contest through a Ben Currie try and penalty courtesy of Stefan Ratchford, before a late Mark Sneyd penalty sent the game to golden point, with Salford dramatically clinching the win. That victory now puts the Red Devils level on points with Warrington as the race for the Play-Offs reaches boiling point.
